On the day of the hike, each participant will meet at a central location at 9:00 AM for their assigned section of the trail for a briefing. At this meeting, topics covered will include safety, Bruce Trail use, how to read blazes and more. Maps for each section will be handed out. All pledges (not collected online) are due at this time and will be collected by the EBC Trail Captain.
Transportation Options:
It is expected that each hiker will have a way to get to and from the trail and meeting point. Car pooling may be arranged at the meeting point on the day of the hike for those who are interested in order to facilitate ease of access (see below). Please e-mail trail@ebcollege.on.ca if you are interested in this method and we will arrange groups accordingly. All other methods are up to the hiker to coordinate.
- Carpool – Group 1 and 2 drive to point B - the intersecting point on their sections of trail, drop off one car, and then pool together in Group 2's car to point A, where they drop off Group 1, and then Group 2 drives to point C where they hike back toward point B, then Group 1 drives group 2 back to their car and they head home for the day.
Note: The following are some suggested alternatives if you wish to arrange your own transportation:
- Two Cars per Group – Both vehicles drive to finish point, leave one car, and then drive to start point to begin their hike. After hike is finished, return to beginning by car to pick up the vehicle left there. This can also work with an adjacent group where both vehicles drive to the end point, leave one car and then carpool to Group A's start point, drop them off and Group B continues to their start point. This ensures neither group has to wait around until the other is finished.
- Shuttle Service – Drive to the finish point. Meet a non-hiker there who will then ferry you to your start point. This can be done at the end of the hike as well.
- Drive and Bike – Drop a bicycle off at one end of your section and lock it up. Drive to the other end of your section and walk to the bike. At the end of the day, bike to your vehicle, and then pick up any remaining hikers from your group.
- Taxi or Transit – In some more urban areas of the trail, there may be taxis or public transit available to ferry you from your vehicle to the beginning of your hike. Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Hamilton / Burlington, Milton, Georgetown, Collingwood, Owen Sound, and Wiarton are possibilities to make use of this service.
It is the hiker’s choice as to whether or not they hike towards Niagara or Tobermory, as long as they complete the total distance required.
