Job Description

Nature of Position: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for the youth ministries within the church alongside the existing sponsors. This role reports directly to the Lead Pastor and ultimately to the Elders Council. As part of this role, the lead pastor will give guidance and feedback in order to encourage the individual to grow in youth ministry. This role also represents the church and so they must in line with the vision and direction of the church leadership. Qualifications and Character: • Displays and communicates strong Christ-like character and testimony • Working to complete a post secondary degree/diploma in pastoral or youth ministry. • Strong organizational skills • Able to plan and teach Bible lessons • Interpersonal skills in building relationships with youth and supportive church family • Must be able to work independently without supervision • Must be conscious of the need for confidentiality and maintain that confidentiality. • Be in agreement with our denomination Statement of Faith The essence is that we are looking for a youth director to provide leadership to our youth ministry (see specifics in the responsibilities section), with the option of including being the primary teacher of our Jr. Church ministry on Sunday mornings. The option is available to you as a student, depending on your sense of calling and\or what range of skills you would like to learn\grow in. This is intended as a 10-15 hour\week position, with an understanding of flexibility in the number of hours per week depending upon a variety of factors. We would like candidates to be willing to fill this position from Sept 15 through ideally the end of June, though end date can be negotiated. Once the hours of the internship requirement would be over, we would change the remuneration component (see below)


Job Responsibilities: Youth Group: The church offers a weekly youth group on Friday nights from 7:00pm – 10:00pm, September – June. This group is open to youth grade 7-12 and current attendance is an average of about 12. 3 out or 4 weeks a month are at the church with activities there. These nights include activities such as games in the gym, group games, theme nights, team challenges, outdoor games, movies, music, food and a devotion. Approximately once a month an event outside the church occurs such as swimming, tobogganing, bowling etc. Some weekend retreats are also part of the schedule (one in winter, one in May). 1. Work with volunteer youth leaders to plan general schedule of events for the year. 2. Produce and distribute/promote (social media etc.) monthly detailed schedule of events. 3. Prepare and gather required materials for each week’s event. Arrive early to set-up as necessary. 4. Prepare a devotion for each week (target 10-20 minutes). 5. Ensure risk management policy is being followed (ratios, attendance taken, safety concerns etc.). This includes preparing informed letters of consent when required for events with high risk (eg. Swimming). 6. Provide leadership with other volunteer youth leaders during weekly youth nights, 7. Look for opportunities to build relationships and mentor youth and make connections outside of weekly activities. Youth Sunday School: Youth Sunday School class meets from September to June from 10am to 10:45am prior to the 11am service. The Youth class is comprised of grades 7-12. 1. Review and create lesson plan based on Faith Weaver curriculum for Sunday morning class. 2. Work with direction from Sunday School Superintendent. Children’s Junior Church: Junior Church takes place during the Sunday morning service during the sermon. Children age 3 ½ to 7 years old are sent downstairs after the worship set until the end of the service. 1. Plan Bible lesson for the children (curriculum available if desired). Plan activities to go along with lesson; examples include: drama, crafts, stories, videos, puppets, games, etc. 2. Work with other volunteers to manage children and facilitate activities. 3. Ensure risk management policy is being followed (ratios, attendance taken, parent sign-out). Weekly meeting w\ Lead Pastor (as part of internship)


During the hours of the internship - $100\week & room & Board for Friday evening -Sunday lunch (if needed) Once internship is finished - $15\hr & room & Board for Friday evening - Sunday lunch (if needed) If room and Board are not needed, we would discuss changes to the dollar amount with individual candidates taking into consideration their circumstances. Our amounts are assuming a candidate travelling from EBC to Faith.
