Located in Southwestern Ontario, Kitchener-Waterloo has a population of approximately 500,000. From its German Mennonite roots, Kitchener-Waterloo has grown to be a thriving city with many opportunities to learn and grow.
Kitchener is about one hour west of Toronto, Canada's largest city, and is also within driving distance of other major centres including London, Hamilton, Niagara Falls and Barrie. You can also drive a short distance to experience the Mennonite towns of St. Jacobs and Elmira, walk the peaceful banks of the Grand River and see the beauty of the Elora Gorge.
Airports in the region include Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Waterloo Wellington International Airport, London International Airport, and John C. Munro International Airport in Hamilton. Kitchener-Waterloo is also accessible by Greyhound Bus, Coach Canada, GO Transit, and VIA Rail.
For those who want to go a bit further, there are 2 bus stops in either direction close to the school - Northbound around the corner from the school on Weber and in front of Emmanuel Village, and Southbound across from Emmanuel Village and in front of Subway.
The two routes that pass Emmanuel are 7 and 8, from which you can connect to almost any other route in the Kitchener-Waterloo area at Fairview Park Mall to the South or the Charles Street Terminal downtown, or even as far north as Conestoga Mall in north-end Waterloo.
For routes and schedule information, visit their homepage.
Individual bus rides cost $2.50 and come with a 90 minute transfer if you need to transfer to another bus or just take a quick trip to the mall. You can also get strips of 5 tickets for a discounted rate(available at Zehrs across the road from Emmanuel and various other locations around KW). (prices subject to change, please contact Grand River Transit for current prices)
With your EBC Student Card (Available from Student Life during September and January), you can get a 4 month bus pass at the Conestoga College rate (Sept - Dec, Jan - Apr).
For those who want to get away from Kitchener for a day or two or more, there are a few options in case you don't have a car or a friend / family member with one. Greyhound has many buses that leave each day in either direction towards London or Guelph / Toronto. Coach Canada goes south to Cambridge / Hamilton and on to Niagara Falls and Buffalo. GO Transit has bus service from Kitchener to Mississauga's Square One Mall with connections to the rest of the GO Network.
Via Rail has 2 trains each day travelling west towards London and Sarnia and 3 trains travelling east to Guelph, Georgetown, Brampton, and Toronto with connections to as far as Halifax or Vancouver. Starting December 2011, there will be 2 GO Trains each morning to Toronto's Union Station from the Kitchener VIA Rail station and 2 trains returning in the late afternoon.
If you want to go further, Waterloo-Wellington International Airport in Breslau has 3 flights daily on Bearskin Airlines to Ottawa, and one daily on Westjet to Calgary.
