Preparing women and men to think, live, serve and lead in the Church and in the world.

Pastors of Emmanuel

A Legacy of Ministry

Since its founding in 1940, Emmanuel Bible College has provided Bible-based post-secondary education to students with a calling to enter the ministry. Emmanuel Bible College is proud to count many notable pastors among our graduates, and this year we honour several pastors of the past, present and the future who have benefited from their studies at Emmanuel Bible College.

With your support, Emmanuel Bible College will continue to produce mature, educated Christians who live and lead by the example of those who have gone before them. By equipping men and women with the skills, resources and passion they need to serve God in a way that’s relevant to today’s culture, we strengthen the next generation of leadership in the Church.

The goal of the Pastors of Emmanuel Campaign this year is to raise $200,000:

  • $175,000 of this money will go to cover our operational costs, including the purchase of new land, renewal and revitalisation of our campus, and other expenses.
  • $25,000 funds the new Scholarship in Memory of Kevin Duncan, available for students called to pastoral ministry.

Lives of Inspiration

Emmanuel Bible College is proud to honour students who have been called to enter pastoral ministry after graduating – pastors of the past, present and the future.

Past

Clarence Hunking
Clarence graduated from EBC after serving in WWII with the army medical corps. He served as pastor at Manitoulin Island, Gormley and Bethany Church. Since his passing in 1999, Clarence leaves a legacy of discipleship, men and women inspired to follow Jesus.

Bill Smith
Saved in a Nazarene church at the age of 15, Bill was the first chaplain for the Lindsay Police Corp. Known as the “Eagle Preacher,” Bill’s sermons were full of the Holy Spirit and vivid imagery. The author of several books, Bill went to be with the Lord in 1997.

Present

David Illman
Sensing the call of the Holy Spirit, David began to prepare for Pastoral ministry in his early teens. Since graduating from Emmanuel Bible College in 1960, David has pastored for 35 years with the Missionary Church and Brethren in Christ.

Mark Bolender
Born to Missionary parents in Nigeria, Mark came to pastoring naturally. After graduating from Emmanuel Bible College in 1972, Mark has been the pastor of a number of churches, including Country Hills EMC in Kitchener and Hillcrest EMC in Medinice Hat. From 1997 to 2002 Mark served as president of the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada.

Future

Brian Magnus
The current Bishop of The United Brethren Church in Canada, Brian Magnus holds a Bachelor of Theology degree from Emmanuel Bible College. Brian is an inspired leader of God’s people.

Elizabeth Cudney
Emmanuel Bible College instilled a love of theology, ministry training and vision for church planting in Elizabeth. Since graduating, she has dedicated her life to the Church. She currently serves as Senior Pastor of Mill Crossing in Cambridge, as well as on the Executive Leadership Team and as leader of New Church Development for the United Brethren Church in Canada.

In honour of the many pastors, we have chosen to honour one man through a specific scholarship. Called home only 20 days after beginning formal ministry, Kevin’s life is an inspiration for us.

Kevin Duncan
Injured in a car crash at the age of 20, Kevin dealt with frustration and pain for much of his life. At 36 he finally gave up his struggle to God. Kevin graduated from Emmanuel Bible College in April 2011 and was immediately offered a position as Pastor of Lincoln Heights EMC. Kevin was called home to his Lord and Saviour on May 20, 2011 after serving at Lincoln Heights EMC for 20 days. A $25,000 scholarship in his honour will be established for Emmanuel Bible College students enrolled in pastoral studies.
